Minutes of Student Representatives’ Meeting
Marymount School
Thursday, September 24th, 2009

The Board members welcomed new and old students.  Students were given a list of rules and guidelines, and a general outline for the year.
A JSA Rep must:

• -Attend monthly meetings and participate in JSA sponsored events.
• -Read and respond to minutes and e-mails.
• -Generate ideas for community service, social and cultural/athletic events; get suggestions and feedback from classmates.
• -Publicize JSA events within his/her school community through the internet, assemblies, school newspapers, class meetings, flyers etc…
• -Organize annual JSA fund-raiser within their school: bake sale, dress-down day, etc.
• -Communicate regularly with JSA Parent Reps, Divisional Head, and Faculty Advisor.

We then discussed the Schedule for Upcoming Events:
Service Saturday at Nightingale-Bamford on October 24th, 1-5 pm.  Reps should start a toiletries drive to be used to make kits for shelters.
Students shared additional ideas for community service projects that included:

• Book Drives
• A “speed dating” event for friends. This would allow students from all different schools to get acquainted with one another.
• An Arts Festival to benefit public schools

We also discussed possible ideas for spreading word about JSA and upcoming JSA events. Our ideas included:

• JSA groups on Facebook
• Emailing flyers in addition to posting them in schools
• 1-2 sentences on flyers describing what JSA is

We then proceeded to discuss possible charities to donate to for the upcoming year. They include:

• Pediatrics charity at Mount Sinai
• S.W.A.N. (Something Women All Need)

The next meeting will be at Spence on October 22, 2009
