Minutes of Student Representatives’ Meeting
Marymount School
Thursday, September 24th, 2009
The Board members welcomed new and old students. Students were given a list of rules and guidelines, and a general outline for the year.
A JSA Rep must:
- -Attend monthly meetings and participate in JSA sponsored events.
- -Read and respond to minutes and e-mails.
- -Generate ideas for community service, social and cultural/athletic events; get suggestions and feedback from classmates.
- -Publicize JSA events within his/her school community through the internet, assemblies, school newspapers, class meetings, flyers etc…
- -Organize annual JSA fund-raiser within their school: bake sale, dress-down day, etc.
- -Communicate regularly with JSA Parent Reps, Divisional Head, and Faculty Advisor.
We then discussed the Schedule for Upcoming Events:
Service Saturday at Nightingale-Bamford on October 24th, 1-5 pm. Reps should start a toiletries drive to be used to make kits for shelters.
Students shared additional ideas for community service projects that included:
- Book Drives
- A “speed dating” event for friends. This would allow students from all different schools to get acquainted with one another.
- An Arts Festival to benefit public schools
We also discussed possible ideas for spreading word about JSA and upcoming JSA events. Our ideas included:
- JSA groups on Facebook
- Emailing flyers in addition to posting them in schools
- 1-2 sentences on flyers describing what JSA is
We then proceeded to discuss possible charities to donate to for the upcoming year. They include:
- Pediatrics charity at Mount Sinai
- S.W.A.N. (Something Women All Need)
The next meeting will be at Spence on October 22, 2009
