Battle of the Bands or Coffee House | Fall 2010
JSA representatives will organize a social activity on a Friday night with proceeds to benefit a student-designated charity.
Bicycle Run | Fall 2010
Service Saturday | Fall/Winter 2010-11
Students will gather in a school cafeteria to complete projects that will benefit local charities, such as God’s Love We Deliver, Project Sunshine, Mount Sinai Dept. of Health Education, Teen Crohn’s, and City at Peace. Student will also collect, sort and pack toiletry kits for Midnight Run, the Bowery Mission, and St. Ignatius Loyola Women’s Shelters, and others.
Winter Carnival | December 2010/January 2011
.JSA hosts an annual carnival to entertain a group of school children from the Mission Society’s after-school program, at Christ Church, 520 Park Avenue at 60th St. Each JSA member school sponsors a booth with a game, craft, or any other fun activity.
Project in conjunction with City Year | Fall/Winter 2010-11
JSA students and student volunteers from member schools will participate in a student-driven project, supervised by City Year, to benefit New York City public schools.
Independent Voices | April 2011
JSA’s annual poetry reading takes place on a Friday evening at Barnes & Noble, Lincoln Center, as part of their Poetry Month events. It features students from JSA member schools reading their original works and the publishing of an annual anthology of student poetry, Independent Voices.
Independent Visions | April/May 2011
JSA will host its annual exhibition of student photography, to be held over a weekend at Tamarind Art Gallery, 142 East 39th Street (www.tamarindart.com). There is an opening reception on a Friday evening.
